The last day of the 2017 session, known as “Sine Die” is almost upon us.
If there was ever a day to pay special attention to what goes on down at the Capitol, it’s Sine Die. Predictions about which bills will fail and which bills will pass have been going on for weeks. I will be paying close attention to last minute surprises.
For example, there is a rumor that the crony capitalist casino bill might find its way back. Voting to uphold our shared values & principles is one of the most important roles of a Representative, but not the only role. I have also been able to advocate on behalf of local officials and other members of the community; for example in regards to Georgia DOT projects and the state employee retirement system.
Just the other day we were able to help a mother expedite a much-needed surgery for her son who has a rare disability. None of this would be possible without my staff who spend long hours making sure we can help each constituent to the best of our ability. I’ve also had the honor of drafting a few resolutions honoring the lives of distinguished individuals from our district who have sadly passed away. It’s has been a humbling experience.
In other news, I was excited to participate in the founding of the Georgia Future Caucus with help from the Millennial Action Project. Often younger generations are seen as more liberal, but I’m happy to announce that some of the most limited government conservative voices can be found in our new, under 40, caucus.
For the past few weeks, I’ve mentioned that I would be organizing a town hall tour after session. I want to make sure you know what’s really going on down here and answer any questions you may have, and I finally have a time & date for all four counties.

Finally, one of the last bills we voted on last week loosened restrictions on wineries that are so prevalent on our Georgia Mountains. This will further create jobs and economic development.

And of course you can find out about every bill I vote on at my website www.mattgurtler.com
